Creature Voice – A Powerful Environmental Art Exhibition

Updated: Oct 16

Melbourne, VIC – March 2024 – The “Creature Voice – 生灵之声” exhibition, an evocative celebration of environmental awareness and artistic expression, is set to captivate audiences at Library at the Dock from March 20 to April 28, 2024. Organised by the Creative Asia Foundation and supported by the City of Melbourne, this unique art showcase features five renowned artists whose works explore the intricate relationships between humans, animals, and the environment, encouraging visitors to reflect on their role in protecting the planet.

Timed to coincide with Earth Day (April 22), this exhibition merges art with ecological consciousness. Visitors will encounter visually striking sculptures, paintings, and multimedia pieces, all inspired by nature’s fragile ecosystems. Each work conveys the voice of living creatures—both human and animal—and their interdependent relationships in a world grappling with environmental challenges.

Highlights of the Exhibition

Callan Morgan, a celebrated Australian artist and founder of Pelican Studios, brings to life large-scale sculptures that harmonise organic elements with modern technology, reflecting the tension between nature and human industry.

HongGuang Jiang, a Chinese-born artist now residing in New Zealand and Australia, presents powerful paintings that humanise animals, expressing raw emotions and raising questions about human-animal connections.

Wenbiao Chen’s works focus on the environmental impact of human activity, portraying hauntingly beautiful depictions of abandoned fishing nets in serene landscapes, reminding viewers of humanity’s lasting imprint on nature.

Stephen Ives, known for his intricate, assemblage-style sculptures, juxtaposes the fragility and resilience of life.

JianJun Wang, a master of floral and bird oil paintings, blends Eastern and Western influences in pieces that meditate on beauty and mortality.

This event is more than an art exhibition; it’s a call to action. “Creature Voice” echoes the need for heightened environmental consciousness, reminding us that the planet’s future is intertwined with every living creature’s voice.
