Melbourne VIC - October 2, 2024 - Pharaoh Exhibition Concludes at NGV with Enriching Student Tour
International students enjoyed a free guided tour of the NGV Pharaoh Exhibition, organized by the Australia Women and Children Protection Development (AWCPD) under the Art Harmony Melbourne project, supported by Study Melbourne, Creative Asia Foundation, Artspie, Multi Art And Culture Association (MAAC), and Le Grange Gallery. This tour offered a deep dive into ancient Egypt, revealing the pharaohs' lives and legacies in an educational and immersive experience.
Understanding the Mysterious World of Pharaohs
Before the exhibition, NGV staff provided an insightful history and symbolism of the pharaohs, preparing students for a deeper understanding of the artifacts. This introduction sparked curiosity and set the stage for the immersive exploration that followed.
Immersive Exploration of Ancient Egypt
With dramatic visual effects and emotionally charged music, the exhibition took students on a 3,000-year journey across eight galleries. Each gallery showcased different aspects of pharaoh culture, from symbolism and family to governance and the afterlife. Over 500 items were displayed, including intricate sculptures and jewelry, demonstrating the extraordinary skill of Egypt's artisans.
The Pharaoh’s Land
This gallery introduced visitors to the pharaoh’s role and function within ancient Egyptian civilization through an array of statues. It provided a foundational understanding before students ventured further into the world of Egyptian royalty.
Pharaohs' Culture and Beliefs
The remaining seven galleries explored various aspects of pharaoh culture, such as symbolism, family, jewelry, governance, and the pharaoh’s connection to the divine and the afterlife. With over 500 items on display, including magnificent jewelry, monumental tombs, and intricate sculptures, students were left in awe of the craftsmanship and artistic vision of ancient Egyptian artisans. These exhibits celebrated the extraordinary skill of Egypt's jewellers, sculptors, and artists, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.
