Melbourne, VIC – March 2024 – The highly anticipated “Immigrant Women in Australia: Finding ‘Her’ Place” exhibition is set to take center stage, presenting powerful narratives of resilience, courage, and cultural integration from immigrant women across Australia. Organised by the Australia Women and Children Protection and Development (AWCPD) and supported by the Victorian Government’s Multicultural Division and Creative Asia Foundation, Le Grange Gallery and MAAC this exhibition will run from 8 June 2024 to 15 June 2024.
This event not only highlights the strength and determination of immigrant women but also aims to showcase their significant contributions to Australian society. The exhibition features stories of women who have overcome immense challenges to establish themselves in a new country, balancing the pressures of family, career, education, and cultural integration.
Among the distinguished speakers at the opening event were several trailblazing women leaders, including Snowe Li, a business leader and advocate for art and philanthropy, Dr. Ruwangi Fernando, an esteemed IT and AI researcher, Dr. Angelina Mirabito, an Italian-Australian writer and artist, and Lina Xu, the co-founder and COO of Telecare. These women shared their personal journeys and challenges, providing inspiration for future generations of immigrant women.
Exhibition Highlights:
• Opening Event: Held at Merri-Bek Town Hall, the launch featured a keynote address by Sheryl Lee, the founder of AWCPD, who emphasized the importance of recognizing the courage and contributions of immigrant women. She highlighted that the exhibition serves as a platform for these women to share their stories and find their place in Australian society.
• Panel Discussions: A special panel featuring Snowe Li, Dr. Ruwangi Fernando, Dr. Angelina Mirabito, and Lina Xu engaged in discussions on leadership, career growth, and cultural adaptation, offering valuable insights and advice to immigrant women navigating their journeys in Australia.
• Art and Culture: Alongside the panel discussions, the exhibition presents artworks from immigrant women artists, capturing the essence of their personal and cultural experiences.
